Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Planners parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
